Why TiER1 Is A Certified B Corporation®

We recognize that there’s a better way to do business: for employees, for communities, and for the world.

Since 2018 TiER1 Performance has been a Certified B Corporation®, joining the ranks of “better for the world” companies such as Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, and Hootsuite. As a B Corp, TiER1 is committed to social and environmental business practices that drive high performance, transparency, and accountability to a broad set of stakeholders.

“We’ve always had a purpose-driven culture that is focused on having a bigger impact,” says Greg Harmeyer, TiER1 CEO and co-founder. “The B Corp Certification is emblematic of our long-held belief that businesses have a unique responsibility—and a unique opportunity—to positively affect society as a whole.”

Over 2,500 B Corps worldwide are redefining what “success” means in the business world, going beyond generating profit for company shareholders. The B Corp Certification is similar to LEED certification, but for the whole business, not just the building. To become certified, B Corps must meet comprehensive performance standards that are measured and verified by the nonprofit B Lab. This verification process measures a company’s impact on all its stakeholders, including workers, suppliers, community, customers, and the environment. Unlike traditional corporations, B Corps are required to consider the impact of their decisions on all their stakeholders.

Shares Harmeyer: “Since the very beginning at TiER1, we’ve believed that organizations exist to serve people, not the other way around. For our current and future employees, this represents an opportunity to be part of a movement greater than ourselves. For our clients, it demonstrates our commitment to be a healthy, holistic organization that has a deep purpose and benefits all of society—something we find is more important in organizations today than ever before.”

Some of the factors that helped TiER1 become a B Corp were our employee-owned stock program, high employee engagement, and commitment to the community, which includes our focus on improving mental wellness in the workplace.

By becoming a Certified B Corporation, TiER1 is joining a community of like-minded businesses that are dedicated to making the world a better place. Check out the infographic to see what being a B Corp means to TiER1.
