What He’s Passionate About
Using design to elevate the voices of those with the least amount of power in a given system and incorporating human-centered design into every client interaction so that staff, leadership, and customers can have the best possible experience—however they define it.
His Professional Experience
Mark is an experience and systems designer, facilitator, and writer working in human-centered graphic design for over 35 years. For four years he was a founding partner of Evanston IL-based Connect_CX, a customer experience design firm. Prior to that he led Corbin Design, an environmental graphic design firm, for 13 years of his 24-year tenure. In 2012 he became Evidence-Based Design Accredited and Certified (EDAC) by the Center for Health Design. From 2017-2021 he earned annual accreditation in Systems Practice from Acumen Academy.
Family Matters
Mark was fortunate enough that his wife Suzanne said "yes" back in 1990, and they’ve been married ever since. They’ve raised two Traverse City natives, sons Alex and Charlie, who now live in Chicago. Their family has had Hungarian Vizslas for 30 years, the latest named Blu. They also have an orange tabby named Hobbes.
Where He Sees His Potential Fully Realized
Mark is happiest when he's working hard with a team toward a shared goal. Whether that's pursuing a project or training for a marathon, he loves contributing his best efforts while encouraging and complementing others' skill sets. And he especially loves celebrating a hard-won goal realized! To him, there is nothing like the feeling of crossing that finish line and knowing you've given it your best.
Fun Fact
- Mark has a genetic clone: he is a mirror-image identical twin. He and his brother Michael talk or text pretty much every day.
