“If you’re a business leader and want your company to be both profitable and an innovative, thriving organization with a healthy work culture that makes a positive difference in the world, but you aren’t sure where to start, Impact With Love: Building Business for a Better World by Greg Harmeyer is for you. The contents are divided into three broad topic areas that address believing in, designing for, and leading for impact. Harmeyer explains what love means in the context of the workplace and the economic, social, and political systems in which it operates. He outlines the issues that leaders must consider in fostering trust among the workforce and with all stakeholders.”

In Impact with Love: Building Business for a Better World, Greg Harmeyer gives us a deeply thoughtful and thought-provoking approach to leadership that is based on ancient concepts of morality but framed in terms of the complex socioeconomic and human resource issues that businesses face today. People are our number one resource, yet we often find that our policies or hierarchies have put stumbling blocks in their way. From the concept of capitalism itself to the many ways that the workforce can be empowered and cared for, Harmeyer offers a view of businesses in which profit and growth are the natural result of a healthy organization.

A wonderfully written handbook on how to grow a purpose driven organization. Greg Harmeyer weaves the telling of his story and the story of his company TiER1, into a compelling behind the scenes look into how you can impact with love. Each detailed chapter ends with a summary and reflection. The reflection asks powerful questions that guide you through the discovery process of how you could personally apply these concepts. The chapter on “Dynamically Distributed Authority” was particularly engaging. This is a model I believe anyone and especially the millennial workforce would prefer to work within.

About the Book

High performance in work is a worthy goal. Yet truly high-performing businesses not only create substantial value; they also positively impact people’s lives and, in the process, build a better world. After 20 years of leading an award-winning, healthy, high-growth company, Greg shares insights, experiences, and frameworks that help leaders create organizations that make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

This book was written for leaders who want to use their position of influence to build healthier, high-performing, people-centered organizations. It is part philosophy, exploring how for-profit businesses can be intentionally designed to be healthy and impactful, and part practice, sharing frameworks and models that help leaders break from conventional models and think differently about how organizations operate. All of it is focused on people and how, when we lead with love, we can create environments that make a difference.

As Greg writes, “People want to work on the side of good. They want to be engaged and to be challenged and to grow. They want to be part of something that has a purpose and a soul and meaning. They want to be supported. They want to be trusted. And they want to love and be loved. In the process of creating such an environment, we will affect people’s lives. And in doing so, we will build a better world.”
